Step 1 – Record and Label Everything
Create a list of everything you’re placing into storage. Number each box. Record the room associated with it. Use a label with your last name and box number. Mark “FRAGILE” boxes with an orange or brightly colored label. Place labels on both the side of the box and on top. This makes it easy to identify them when stacked.
Step 2 – Disassemble Bed Frames and Shelves
To make the most efficient use space disassemble your bed frames, shelving and other items.
Step 3 – Pathways And Exterior Walls
Place boxes and mattresses along exterior walls to support your boxes and freestanding items. Create pathways of boxes that form aisles in which you can move around to make it easy to access them in the future. Stack the boxes so that you can read the labels.

Using a tape measure, create two directly connected ‘5x10’ areas. Doing so establishes a 5’x10’ and a 10’x20’ area. Marking them off with masking tape or painters tape.
